The township assistance office will provide financial assistance for those who qualify on a temporary or emergency basis until income can be arranged from other public or private sources. The office also advises about non-financial resources.

The North Shore Senior Center offers help with Federal and State tax returns each filing season. Trained volunteers are available to help. Volunteers work on an appointment basis at the Center or, if needed, in client’ s homes and will prepare returns, offer help, or just check the client’s work. Clients are asked to bring a copy of their previous year returns and all of the documents reporting income for the current tax year. The service starts approximately the first of February each year.

  • Senior Citizen Exemption
    The Senior Citizen Exemption provides tax relief by reducing the equalized valuation of an eligible residence. This savings is in the form of a deduction on the second-installment of the real estate tax bill.
  • Senior Citizen Freeze Exemption
    The Senior Freeze Exemption allows qualified senior citizens to apply for a freeze of the equalized assessed value (EAV) of their properties for the year preceding the year in which the applicant first qualifies and applies for this exemption.
  • Senior Citizen Liaison
    The Cook County Assessor provides a Senior Citizen Liaison in order Increase awareness of tax relief programs for senior citizens, make the exemption application process easier for senior citizen homeowners, and expand the senior citizen community’s understanding of the Assessor’s role in the property tax cycle.

Illinois Circuit Breaker Program
Seniors who pay property taxes or mobile home taxes on a home; or rent or live in a nursing, retirement, or shelter care home that was subject to property taxes, may be able to receive a grant.
